State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab (D-Silicon Valley) introduced the Keeping Californians Housed Act, Senate Bill (SB) 436, which will protect low-income renters from eviction for nonpayment of rent if they can pay the amount owed to the landlord after an eviction lawsuit has started.
But the bill was killed in the Assembly Judiciary Committee despite broad backing from tenant advocates . This speaks volumes to the indifference the general legislative establishment has to the economic pressures everyday Americans face. But Senate member Wahab and others like her do their best to fight for everyday americans.
